Akai recently released an update the the MPC platform. One of the major new features was the ability to MIDI map controllers other than the MPC line to their software.
That means you can use their software with controllers from Akai, Alesis, M-Audio, Novation, and Native Instruments out of the box, thanks to the built in templates.
You can also map any controller that sends out MIDI information using the MIDI learn feature.
That’s cool, but what I thought was really different is that they added MIDI map/learn functionality to the standalone MPC. So if you’re using an X or Live, without the computer, you can still map your favorite MIDI controller to the actual MPC to control things like volume, pan, mute, solo, faders, etc.
What do you think about this functionality, and how would you use it in your setup if you’re an MPC user?
